Native Forestry is a small, independent business run by two conscientious forest managers. Established since 2005, we are dedicated to providing excellent services which promote the planting, management and conservation of native woodland.

Forest Managers

Nick Barnes BSc. MSc. PhD (NPTC CS30.1, CS30.2, CS31, PA1, PA6A; Distinction in MSc Environmental Forestry, Bangor).

Emma Barnes BSc. MSc (NPTC CS30.1, CS30.2, CS31, PA1, PA6A; LANTRA Basic Tree Inspection; Distinction in MSc Environmental Forestry, Bangor).

Where Are We?

We are based in the National Forest in South Derbyshire, but also work throughout the East Midlands, West Midlands and occasionally in southern England.


Clients include the Forestry Commission and National Forest Company, as well as a number of private landowners and other forestry companies. Health and Safety/ Insurance/ Qualifications

  • Health and safety is taken very seriously; our policy can be provided on request. An ABC Response trained first aider is on site at all times.
  • Environmental responsibilities are taken very seriously; the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 & the COSHH Regulations 2002, 2005 are adhered to.
  • Insurance certificates are also provided on request (Public Liability £5 million & Professional Indemnity £500,000).
  • Training and qualifications are key priorities for both managers; we continue to attend a variety of ecological and management courses. Course providers include IEEM and FSC.
  • Membership and affiliation with the Institute of Chartered Foresters is an ongoing commitment and Emma is an associate member.
